Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Furnée compares φαῦρος (phaûros, “light”), φλαῦρος (phlaûros, “indifferent, bad”) and φαῦλος (phaûlos, “insignificant”). Beekes suggests that ἀμαυρός (amaurós, “dark”) is also cognate and believes that this is a Pre-Greek word.
