ἀρκάνη
Appearance
Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]The connection with ἄρκυς (árkus, “hunter's net”) is doubtful. The suffix is also seen in δρεπάνη (drepánē, “sickle”), καπάνη (kapánē, “chariot”) and θηγάνη (thēgánē, “whetstone”). Probably a loanword, perhaps from Pre-Greek, according to Beekes.
