[edit]From ἀντι- (anti-, “in exchange; in return; instead of”) + δῶρον (dôron, “gift”) from Proto-Hellenic *dṓron, from Proto-Indo-European *déh₃rom; cf. verb ἀντιδωρέομαι (antidōréomai, “to donate, exchange, present in return, offer instead”).
