[edit]Proposed to derive from Proto-Yoruboid *ɛ́-fã̀, cognate with Igala ẹ́fà, Olukumi ẹfàn, and Edo ẹhan, equivalent to *ɛ́- (“nominalizing prefix”) + *fã̀. Perhaps it is related to Igbo efi (“cow”)
