[edit]From Old Khmer វាង៑ (vāṅ), វាង្ង៑ (vāṅṅ), វង៑ (vaṅ, “enclosure; citadel, fort, fortress, stronghold; palace; to encircle, to enclose, to surround; to bar, to block; to screen, to shield; etc”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *wa(a)ŋ (“enclosure”). Doublet of វាំង (vĕəng), ពាំង (pĕəng), and វៀង (viəng).
វង់ is also the allomorph of modern ពង់ (pŭəng, “to puff up”).
