[edit]From ព្រះ (prĕəh, “prefix for gods, royal persons, and things relating to them”, literally “divine; excellent; precious; etc”) + អង្គ (ʼɑng, “being; body; form; etc”); derived from Old Khmer braḥ ʼaṅga. Compare Lao ພຣະອົງ (pha ra ʼong); Thai พระองค์ (prá-ong).
