From ព្រះ (prĕəh, prefix for gods, royal persons, and things relating to them, literally divine; excellent; precious; etc) +‎ អង្គ (ʼɑng, being; body; form; etc); derived from Old Khmer braḥ ʼaṅga. Compare Lao ພຣະອົງ (pha ra ʼong); Thai พระองค์ (prá-ong).
