From Proto-Germanic *tawidǭ, 1st singular past indicative of *tawjaną. Cognate with Gothic 𐍄𐌰𐍅𐌹𐌳𐌰 (tawida) (1st/3rd sg. past ind. of 𐍄𐌰𐌿𐌾𐌰𐌽 (taujan)), Old English tawode (1st/3rd sg. past ind. of tawian).
