From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Proto-Norse

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Probably from ᚺᚱᛟᛉᚨᛉ (hroʀaʀ /Hrōʀaʀ/, male given name) +‎ -ᛃᚨᛉ (-jaʀ), with the suffix contracted from an earlier hypothetical *ᚺᚱᛟᛉᛁᛃᚨᛉ (*hroʀijaʀ /Hrōʀijaʀ/). This contraction is also seen in ᚺᛡᛖᚱᚢᚹᚢᛚᚨᚠᛁᛉ (hᴀeruwulafiʀ /Hearuwulᵃfīʀ/).
