Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Kartvelian *q̣w(l)ep-, *q̣w(l)ip-, *q̣w(l)p- (“to scratch off; to strip off; to fade”). Cognate with Laz ღლეპა (ğlep̌a) and Svan ყუეფ (q̇uep).
Ačaṙean derives from Armenian: compare Middle Armenian կլեպ (klep, “bark; peel; rind; husk; shelld”), կլեպել (klepel, “to peel”), Old Armenian կեղեւ (kełew, “bark; peel; rind; husk; shell”)
