[edit]From Proto-Georgian-Zan *ɣwarʒl-. Cognate with Mingrelian ღურძული (ɣurʒuli, “plague, misfortune”), Laz ღურძული (ğurżuli, “poison; plague, misfortune”).[1][2]
According to J̌ahukyan, Middle Armenian խորձուիլ (xorjuil), Armenian խավարծիլ (xavarcil, “rhubarb”), is borrowed from Kartvelian.[3]
