Etymology

From ა- (a-) +‎ ყვ- (qv-) +‎ -ენ (-en). Inherited from Proto-Georgian-Zan *q̇aw- : q̇w- (to make). Georgian ყოფა (q̇opa).

  1. (about kinship) to be something of one another
    ალი ჩქიმი სიჯა დომაყვენ.
    ali çkimi sica domaqven.
    Ali is my son-in-law.
  2. something to be something for someone
    ჰამ წინეკი მა დიდი მაყვენ.
    ham ǯineǩi ma didi maqven.
    These socks are too big for me.
  3. someone to have child, product, horn, etc.
  4. one to be in a situation
    ხასანის ყინი აყუ დო თირთინს.
    xasanis qini aqu do tirtins.
    Khasan is cold and shivering.

Usage notes

  • The first and second sense is conjugated according to the conjugation table.
  • The third sense lacks the 1st and 2nd person conjugations (both singular and plural).
  • The fourth sense takes exactly the same forms as the second sense, but it lacks the compliment.
