Etymology

[edit]

From Pali āma +‎ ခံ (hkam, to endure, resist, accept).

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “What exactly is the Pali term here; that is, what is its meaning and etymology? Doesn't appear in cursory searches of the Pali Text Society dictionary. Is it equivalent to Sanskrit आम (āma, raw, uncooked), with insurance thus being interpreted as "enduring the raw (damage, etc.)"?”
