From အ- (a.-, nominal prefix) + a component မှု (hmu.) (which may be reflected in မှု (hmu., to treat with respect)) from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *mow (to work, move, do, make); cognate with Old Chinese (OC *moɡs, “to apply oneself; work, task”) (STEDT).
