Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Old Burmese သိခဝ် (sikaw).

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given further etymology by STEDT (sakhaṅ "lord"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. First syllable is of unclear interpretation and origin, while second syllable, ခင် (hkang), seems to be in the "male honorific" sense.”
