Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (lanʼ "startled, frightened"), while Luce gives Old Chinese (OC *tjans, “to tremble, shiver”) as a cognate.[1] The Chinese comparison is now outdated, based on modern Old Chinese reconstructions. This also assumes that this word is the same as "lan" in the "startle" sense (probably so, given the dictionary sense "repulsed").”
