[edit]လက် (lak, “sleeves”) + ရှည် (hrany, “long”), from the Burmese association of Hokkien settlers with merchant trade. Conversely, the Cantonese and Toisanese were associated with artisanship and manual work, hence the name လက်တို (laktui).
