From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *riːt (“to reap, scrape, shave, cut, sever”); cognate with Mizo [Term?] (rîit, “to scratch, scrape with a hoe”), Old Chinese 利 (OC *rids, “sharp; profit, use”) (STEDT).
