Etymology

[edit]

Orthographic shift from original မုံံ့. The original meanings appear to be "bread" and "small, minute". Not given etymology by STEDT (mun. "bread"), while Luce adduces Old Chinese (OC *moːn, “steamed bread”) as cognate.[1]

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Perhaps in the same word family as မှုန့် (hmun., flour, powder)?”
