From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *(p/b)ljaŋ (straight; to straighten), and cognate with Old Chinese (OC *l'eːŋ, *l'eːŋʔ, “to stick out, straighten up; straight, stiff; quite”); see there for more (STEDT).
