Etymology

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (nut "take out, extract"). Luce gives Old Chinese (OC *nja, *njaʔ, *njas, “to pull out by the roots”) as a cognate,[1] albeit with a transcription as "nhut". The Chinese is thought to be from Austroasiatic; if the Burmese is related, could this be an areal word?”
