Provisionally inherited from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *twak (to calculate, count, tally); cognate with Tedim Chin tuak (STEDT). Said root may be connected to Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-twa (handspan), in which case see Old Chinese (OC *daːɡs, *daːɡ, “degree, capacity”) for more.
