Etymology 1

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *tsəj² (to wash), from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *tsəj (idem); cognate with Akha [script needed] (tshì, to idem). Said Tibeto-Burman root may be related to Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m/b-s(y)il ~ *m/b-syal (to wash, bathe), the latter whence Old Chinese (OC *sɯːlʔ, *sɯːnʔ, “to wash”) (STEDT).
