Burmese

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

The "joint" sense is from Proto-Lolo-Burmese *ʔdzik ~ *ʔdzak (joint), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *tsik (idem). The "chop, cut" sense is related to *tsik as well; see there for more (STEDT). The other senses are likely semantic extensions of the two aforementioned senses, and are grouped together by MED.
