Etymology 1

[edit]

Inherited from Old Burmese စဝ် (saw).

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (cô "early; premature"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. Bears resemblance to Old Chinese (OC *ʔsuːʔ, “early”), the latter which appears to be an areal word.

MED connects the "early" and "eager" senses together, which is feasible.”
