Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (cañ "abound, be crowded"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. MED groups this with the "drum" meaning, perhaps with assumed semantic shift "drum" > "beating of drums" > "lively event" > "lively, prosperous"; it is uncertain whether the two senses are etymologically connected.”

Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (cañ "drum, cask"). Luce 1981 gives Old Chinese 晉 (OC *ʔsins, “a drum”) as a cognate.[1] The common sense of the Chinese term is "to advance", while online dictionaries do not seem to list the "drum" sense; is this a real sense for the character or is this an apocryphal clerical error? If an error, it seems that the Chinese term would go better with the "prosperous" sense of Etymology 1.”
