Etymology

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *m-kum² (block, pillow), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-k(u/i)m (pillow, block, bench, bedstead). Cognate with Mizo khum (pillow), Old Chinese (OC *ʔl'um, “chopping block”), (OC *l'um, *ʔljumʔ, *ʔljums) (STEDT).
