From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *k/g-r(u/i)m (“to meet”); cognate with Jingpho [script needed] (khrum, “to meet, converge, copulate”) (STEDT).

Particularly: “Doesn't seem to be given etymology by STEDT (tɕhɑũ⁵⁵ "classifier for long, thin obje" (sic)). Luce mentions a "kruṁ" with meaning "Particles; worn away", for which he adduces Tibetan ཁྲུམ་ (khrum, “poured to bits in mortar”) as a cognate.[1] It is unclear if this is the same as the "skinny" meaning.”
