From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-ts(j)ul (lip; beak) (STEDT). Compare Lepcha ᰣᰌᰫᰯ (adúl, rim), Newar म्हुतु/𑐪𑐸𑐟𑐸 (mhutu), Tangut 𘚆 (*tjụ², lip). Also compare Chinese (OC *ʔse, *ʔse, *ʔseʔ), (OC *ʔseʔ), (OC *tjɯn, *ɦljun) and (OC *ɦljun).
