เหล็กใน
Appearance
Thai
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Tai *ʰlekᴰ (“iron”) + Proto-Tai *lajᴬ (“stinger (of a bee)”).[1] The Thai form /najᴬ²/ is aberrant, possibly due to dissimilation from /lekᴰˢ²/, i.e. *lekᴰˢ² lajᴬ² > /lekᴰˢ² najᴬ²/.[2]
The ใน is cognate with Zhuang laez (“stinger (of a bee)”).
