[edit]From Pali añjali (“salutation; reverence; etc”), from Sanskrit अञ्जलि (añjali, “idem”); perhaps via Old Khmer ʼañjali, ʼañjuli (“the pressing of palms together for expressing respect or reverence”). Cognate with Modern Khmer អញ្ជលី (ʼɑɑñcɔɔlii), អញ្ជុលី (ʼɑɑñculii); Burmese အဉ္ဇလီ (anyja.li).
