[edit]From หนึ่ง (nʉ̀ng, “the one”) + ใน (nai, “in”) + ตองอู (dtɔɔng-uu, “Taungoo”); from a quote in the 1932 novel Phu Chana Sip Thit ("Conqueror of the Ten Directions") by Jacob (1907–1956), referring to King Bayinnaung of Toungoo Empire.[1]
