[edit]From Pali vāra (“day (of the week); time, moment, occasion; etc”), from Sanskrit वार (vāra, “idem”); probably via Old Khmer °vāra, vāra, vār (“idem”). Cognate Modern Khmer វារៈ (viərĕəʼ), ពារ (piə).
