[edit]From Proto-Tai *ŋwaːᴬ (“yesterday”).[1] The final -n in this word is unetymological and was acquired under the influence of the ensuing deictic นี้ (níi, “this”), as in เมื่อวานนี้ (mʉ̂ʉa-waan-níi, “this past yesterday”).[2][3]
Cognate with Lao ວານ (wān), Zhuang vaz.
