[edit]From Sanskrit यक्ष (yakṣa, “yakṣa”). Cognate with យក្ស (yĕək); Lao ຍັກ (nyak) and Burmese ယက္ခ (yakhka.). Compare Pali yakkha, from which Thai ยักข์ (yák) is derived.
