[edit]From Pali buddharūpa, from buddha (“Buddha”) + rūpa (“form; figure”), equivalent to Thai พุทธ (pút) + รูป (rûup). Cognate with Old Khmer buddharupa, buddarupa, buddharuppa, buddharuba, buddharrapa, buddharrappa, °buddharruppa, buddhārvapa, buddhadharrappa, butatharrūpa, butadhūrrūpa; Modern Khmer ពុទ្ធរូប (putthɔɔruup).
