From Pali vikāra (change; distortion), from vi (different; in a different way; etc) + kāra (case; matter; affair; etc); ultimately from Sanskrit विकार (vikāra, idem), from वि (vi, idem) + कार (kāra, idem); equivalent to Thai พิ () +‎ การ (gaan). Cognate with Khmer ពិការ (pikaa), Lao ພິການ (phi kān).
