[edit]From Old Khmer bnaṃ (“height; high place; hill, mountain; temple-mountain, mountain on top of which a temple is located, the temple itself; etc”), extended as branomya, from which Thai ประนม is derived. Compare Old Khmer vnaṃ, vnaṃm, vnam; Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer vnaṃ. Cognate with Modern Khmer ភ្នំ (phnum).
