[edit]From Proto-Tai *C̥.baːᴮ (“shoulder”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨷ᩵ᩤ, Lao ບ່າ (bā), Lü ᦢᦱᧈ (ḃaa¹), Shan မႃႇ (màa) or ဝႃႇ (wàa), Tai Nüa ᥛᥣᥱ (mǎa), Tai Dam ꪚ꪿ꪱ, Ahom 𑜈𑜡 (bā), Zhuang mbaq, Tày bá. Compare Proto-Austronesian *qabaʀa (“shoulder”).
