[edit]From Pali pavara (“best; excellent”); probably via Old Khmer pavara (“best; excellent; distinguished; superb”). Cognate with Modern Khmer បវរ (bâvôr); Lao ບໍວອນ (bǭ wǭn). Compare Sanskrit प्रवर (pravara).
