[edit]From Pali pabbajita (“one who has gone out from home; one who has given up worldly life and undertaken the life of a bhikkhu, recluse or ascetic”) or Sanskrit प्रव्रजित (pravrajita, “gone abroad or into exile; turned a recluse; religious mendicant or ascetic”). Cognate with Khmer បព្វជិត (bɑɑpvɔɔcɨt), Lao ບັບພະຊິດ (bap pha sit).
