From Old Khmer តម្រ្វច៑ (tamrvac), តម្រ្វាច៑ (tamrvāc), តំរ្វច៑ (taṃrvac), តំរ្វាច៑ (taṃrvāc), តំម្រ្វច៑ (taṃmrvac), តំម្រ្វាច៑ (taṃmrvāc, inspection, regulation; inspector, regulator; etc), extended forms of Old Khmer ត្រ្វច៑ (trvac), ត្រ្វាច៑ (trvāc, to examine; to inspect; etc), from which Thai ตรวจ (dtrùuat) is derived. Cognate with Modern Khmer តម្រួត (tɑmruət); Lao ຕຳຫຼວດ (tam lūat).
