Etymology

From Old Khmer trabāṃṅa (“body of standing water, as pond, pool, reservoir, tank, etc”). Compare Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer travaṅ, travāṅ; Angkorian Old Khmer travāṅ, travaṅ, trāvaṅ. Cognate with Khmer ត្រពាំង (trɑpĕəng, “natural pond”).
