[edit]From Old Khmer ចង្រៃ (caṅrai, “evil omen; bad luck; misfortune; etc”) or Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer ចំរៃ (caṃrai, idem). Cognate with Modern Khmer ចង្រៃ (cɑngrɨy).
