Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Angkorian Old Khmer kralā homa, kralā homma (literally court of sacrifices; sacrificial ground), from kralā (court; courtyard; ground; etc) + homa, homma (sacrifice; sacrificial ceremony), itself from Sanskrit होम (homa, oblation), referring to the precinct of a fire worship ceremony held before marching to war. Cognate with Modern Khmer ក្រឡាហោម (krɑlaa haom).
