From Proto-Southwestern Tai *klɔːnᴬ² (latch of door; rafter). Compare Old Chinese (OC *kroːn). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨠᩖᩬᩁ, Lao ກອນ (kǭn), ᦂᦸᧃ (k̇oan), Shan ၵွၼ် (kǎun, rafter), Phake ကွꩫ် (kon, rafter), Ahom 𑜀𑜨𑜃𑜫 (kon, rafter), Zhuang gyon, Zuojiang Zhuang gyon.
