[edit]From Sanskrit पल्यङ्क (palyaṅka), variant of पर्यङ्क (paryaṅka, “bed, couch, litter”) of uncertain origin. Cognate with Assamese পাল্কী (palki), Bengali পালকি (paloki) and Bhojpuri पाल्की (pālkī).
