[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀫𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀻 (maṭṭī), from Sanskrit મૃત્તિકા (mṛttikā).[1] Cognate with Gujarati માટી (māṭī), Punjabi ਮਿੱਟੀ / مِٹّی (miṭṭī), Sindhi مِٽِي (miṭī).
