[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀥𑀼 (madhu), from Sanskrit मधु (mádhu), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *mádʰu (“honey”), from Proto-Indo-European *médʰu (“mead”). Doublet of મધુ (madhu). Cognates include Assamese মৌ (mou), Bengali মৌ (mōu), Ancient Greek μέθυ (méthu), Lithuanian medùs, Old Church Slavonic медъ (medŭ, “honey”), and Old English medu (English mead).
