[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀧𑀸𑀳𑀸𑀟 (*pāhāḍa, “mountain”). Cognate with Bengali পাহাড় (pahaṛ), Hindi पहाड़ (pahāṛ), Nepali पहाड (pahāḍ), Punjabi ਪਹਾੜ (pahāṛ).
