થાકવું
Appearance
Gujarati
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Apabhramsa थक्कइ (thakkaï),[1] from Prakrit 𑀣𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀇 (thakkaï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀲𑁆𑀣𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀢𑀺 (*sthakkati, “stop, halt”), with further etymology unknown.[2] Some theories:
- Ultimately from Sanskrit स्थग् (sthag, “to cover, hide”); compare Sanskrit स्थगितगिर् (sthagitagir, “with speech impeded”), from the same root.
- From Sanskrit स्था (sthā, “to stand”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-).
Cognate with Kachchi થકણૂ (thakṇū).
